SBS= Turkish Placement Exam

Students enrolled in TÖMERKENT's Turkish courses take the Turkish Placement Exam (SBS) to determine their language level. The SBS consists of sections that measure grammar, vocabulary, reading, and listening skills. This exam is conducted in order to determine the Turkish level of students and to place them in classes suitable for their level and to determine the students who are eligible to take the Istanbul Kent University Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS).  All candidates, who do not take SBS, start their Turkish education from the beginner level (A1). 

The results of the Turkish Placement Exam are evaluated according to the following grading system:

TYS= Turkish Proficiency Exam

The Turkish Proficiency Exam (TYS) consists of four main parts: "reading", "listening", "writing" and "speaking". TYS is conducted for students who meet the exam entrance requirements before the start of the academic year, at the end of the fall semester, at the end of the spring semester and at the end of the summer break. It takes place in two different sessions as “written” and “oral” sessions. The written exam, which consists of reading, listening and writing sections, takes approximately three hours. 

Written exam is conducted in the morning. The second session is held in the afternoon of the same day or the next day and then "speaking" exam is conducted. "Speaking" exam lasts about 15 minutes. At the end of the first session, students learn the place and time of the "speaking" exams from the lists in the classroom where they take the written exam. Students are required to be in the designated waiting room 30 minutes before the appointment time reserved for them. Appointment times are not changed after the lists are announced.

The level is determined according to the score obtained from the exam and the certificate suitable for the level is prepared by TÖMERKENT and delivered to the person.

STS= Level Completion Exam

All students who have completed any level of Turkish courses take the Level Completion Exam, which measures their reading, listening, speaking and writing skills. Those who are successful in the exam are eligible to move on to the next level; students who do not get enough points are required to repeat the same level.
