Director's Message

Dear Students,
Welcome to the Turkish and Foreign Language Teaching Application and Research Center (TÖMERKENT) established within the body of Istanbul Kent University.

When the language ability, which makes human existence meaningful and feeds it non-stop, is reinforced with another language besides the mother tongue, the wide creativity that opens up in front of you will accompany you for life. As you learn to hear the other and to live with the other on the edge or in accompaniment of a new language, you realize how similar you actually are to the one who seems to be the other.

Istanbul Kent University places the teaching of Turkish as a foreign language at the center of intercultural cohesion, in line with the acceptance of international students, which is one of the priority policies of YÖK. TÖMERKENT provides its students who have settled in Turkey or who want to learn a foreign language in Turkey, with the curricula prepared by taking into account the learning, teaching and assessment principles in the European Common Recommendations Framework for Languages, the ability to express themselves with sufficient self-confidence. Our well-equipped academic staff adopts multi-faceted coursework in which culture and language interaction are carried out together. On the other hand, our center sensitively attaches importance to developing areas where Turkish is used with competence at international level and contributing to these areas.

With the same sense of responsibility, we set out with an inclusive, integrative and innovative perspective as a learning center equipped with technological facilities, bringing together different cultural identities in Taksim, the heart of Istanbul, and we embrace all our students who will accompany us.
We hope that you will continue, remember, and enrich your intellectual world with the multi-faceted education approach we aim to bring to you, and we wish you success.

Thank you for choosing us on this precious journey that opens to the rich vocabulary of Turkish and other languages included in our curriculum.
