Distance Education Processes and Infrastructure

Distance education processes in the Political Science and Public Administration Department at Istanbul Kent University are carried out in line with the University’s Distance Education Policy and under the coordination of the

Distance Education Application and Research Center (UZEM). These processes are managed through a comprehensive approach covering information systems, user competencies, instructional design, technical support, data security, and ethical principles.

Information Systems and Infrastructure

Distance education activities are conducted through the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) and Adobe Connect virtual classroom infrastructure. The system is integrated with the Student Information

System and automatically updates course, student, and instructor data. Microsoft Teams is also used for both in-class and out-of-class communication.
The infrastructure is supported by high-performance servers, regular backup systems, and scalable cloud solutions, ensuring uninterrupted access for a large number of simultaneous users.

User Competencies and Training

The development of digital competencies for both instructors and students is considered essential.

  • Instructors are provided with training on digital pedagogy, content development, and system usage.
  • Students are provided with user guides, exam guidelines, and introductory materials.

These practices aim to support effective participation in the online learning environment.

Teaching Processes and Assessment

Courses are designed in alignment with learning outcomes, using both synchronous and asynchronous teaching methods. Various assessment methods such as assignments, projects, presentations, and online exams are applied.

Exam security is ensured through question banks, access restrictions, user authentication, and system logs.

Technical Support and Human Resources

Distance education processes are coordinated by UZEM, and technical support is provided by specialized technical staff. In addition, a department-specific “Distance Education Technical Support Task Definition” document clearly defines support processes, responsibilities, and response times.

Users can receive quick and effective support through designated support channels.

External Support Services

Technical support and maintenance services for certain systems used in distance education are provided by authorized external service providers.

Cybersecurity and Personal Data Protection

Information security and personal data protection are prioritized in all distance education processes.

  • The University complies with the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (Law No. 6698).
  • User access is managed based on authorization levels.
  • Security measures such as firewalls, antivirus software, and multi-factor authentication are implemented.

All system activities are logged and monitored when necessary to ensure security.

Ethical Principles

Academic integrity, data security, and respect for intellectual property rights are considered fundamental principles in distance education processes. Students and instructors are expected to act in accordance with these principles.
